Mens sana in corpore sano – as a wise saying from ancient times goes. We often hear about the mind-body relationship and how important it is to be aware of our own body’s reactions and of our thoughts. But what do we do with our emotions and the messages they carry for us? And moreover, what was in the first place? the Body? the Mind? the Emotions? And what is the connection between them? What do you do when your body also gives you signals (such as a very rapid heartbeat), your mind then interprets them catastrophically (“I’m definitely going to pass out here in front of all these people”) and the inevitable happens – you clearly know you’re in the middle of a panic attack episode. I invite you to explore this body-mind-emotions triad together in order to explore an inner map using your body as a guide to navigate your own thoughts and emotions. I propose a safe space where we’ll be as present as we can to the sensations in our bodies, activating our openness and curiosity to wonder: “if these sensations in my body could talk, what would they talk about? And do I allow them to speak to me?”
Today when I introduce myself professionally, I say that I am Andrada Lupșe, certified psychotherapist in Imago couple relationship therapy, PhD in psychology.
But I know that finding out who I am, beyond these professional roles, is an ongoing process. The fact that my therapeutic philosophy is focused on the importance of understanding my own life story is rooted in my own need to understand myself for who I am and less through what I do. I have known since the end of high school that I wanted to be a psychotherapist and have always felt fortunate for this clarity. Today, I try to live by the principle of “less is more” in order to allow myself to live consciously, understanding that I need to be present first to myself in order to be present for people’s stories.
