THE INNER

How do you improve your mood when you’re at the office?

We spend a third of our lives working.

One sleeping.

And another is ours alone.

And yet, these parts of life are connected, it’s not as if they are strictly separate. Tell me: what happens at the office stays at the office and what happens at home stays at home?…

My point is that we humans need to understand that in absolutely any situation we find ourselves in, we have the ability to make it better or worse – taking responsibility for your own decisions is not an easy job, but it is worth it. Even if you’ve had a hard day at work and you’re really busy, you have an obligation not to bring problems home from work. So be responsible for what you do at work, what you do in your free time, what you do to maintain your health, regardless of time and place.

The impact of work on the health of employees has been studied and has been studied for years by psychologists, it is a subject about which much has been written and entire libraries have been filled. An attempt has been made to answer a popular question in American culture: is there work-life balance? As much as we might like it, balance probably doesn’t mean what most people think of – a straight line; it would be more like a wavy line, with ups and downs. Life can be unpredictable and life can’t be perfect – perhaps that’s the beauty of it.

If things can’t always go according to plan, what is there to do?

There is always something to do.

There are always opportunities to improve your condition.

You can always take care of your wellness.

Back to what we discussed in the title, what can you do more concretely at work for your well-being?

If you’ve heard of mindfulness and you’ve only heard it, then you’d better try it. When you hear of mindfulness, you don’t think of ultra-sophisticated, mystical and extra-philosophical practices that you have to acquire after years of toil in an Asian country. MindFULLness means that you fill your mind with things that are in your favour! It means that you pay attention to the present and to your thoughts, it means that you realize that the only moment that exists is the present moment and you don’t fill your mind with useless and harmful thoughts. Why is this useful, though? For one simple reason – you learn to train your attention and focus on the present moment. In other words, you increase your ability to concentrate in a way that has beneficial effects on both your brain and your body.

Want to perform at work? Try mindfulness: do just one task at a time and forget multitasking. You’ll see that this is a skill, not a superpower, and it develops over time and with dedication.

  • If you work a lot on the computer, learn to divide your time. For example, work hard for 50 minutes and take 10 minutes off. In those 10 minutes of downtime, find a place to look into the distance. People’s eyes aren’t meant to sit for hours looking at an object in front of them, close up – this is the main reason why by 2050 we will have an epidemic of myopia.
  • Sit up straight! A straight back symbolises strength and determination. If you have a posture that indicates weakness and vulnerability (bent back) and you maintain it at least 8 hours a day, how do you expect to feel strong and determined?

There is a link between physiology and emotions.

Sit with your back straight on the chair, with your base at 90 degrees, your eyes straight ahead and your elbows also at 90 degrees. By doing this, you can make up for the lack of back exercise!

Get out in the fresh air and light whenever you get the chance! It’s trivial, but it matters!

On your lunch break, what do you do? Are you sitting with your nose in your phone? It’s much healthier to do so than sitting in air conditioning and switching from a bigger screen to a smaller one…

There’s nothing like fresh air and natural light. It’s trite what I’m saying here…

How are you going to spend your breaks from now on?

It’s just a few small things that in time will pay off. Be patient.

Of course, one of the most beneficial activities you can do is to get out into nature whenever you get the chance to give your mind and body a total refresh . The environment in which you spend time is very important for your development as a person.

At Novis Plaza, we have built a working environment where two worlds meet: the natural world and the human world. We adopted the concept of biophilic design to meet the demands of modernity and to fulfill a basic human need! We ensure the wellness, the well-being of all our tenants!

Our friends at The Inner will be holding a few wellness workshops on June 3-5 at the Novis Plaza building on the Turkish Cut as part of The Inner Mapping Inside!

Come and participate to learn how to maintain your well-being! And, why not, pass it on!
